Porkers Picks – midweek special

Top two leagues in action this midweek.

Fancy the Championship leaders to continue to set the pace – Ayr and Ross County.

In the Premiership, Im taking Motherwell away at 11/8 and although a pig is no fan of fences, I’m going to sit on the Tynecastle one with a draw being the most likely outcome at 12/5.

2 points – Ayr @ 4/6

1 point – Ross County @ 3/5

1 point – Motherwell @ 11/8

1 point – Hearts / Hibs draw @ 12/5

FTOF – except where they can make you money

Mixed fortunes yesterday but still a small profit and  a special Super Sunday bonus gives opportunity to build on that.

Hearts are deservedly given respect in this encounter but I think they are somewhat oversold. Celtic are still a significantly stronger side and although both have their injury troubles, Hearts will feel the impact more. On Hearts last big test, Rangers pumped them, let’s  see how they do here. 7/10 is good value for Celtic.

I expect Rangers to be too strong for Aberdeen too. Should be close, but we have almost evens on Rangers.

2 points – Celtic @ 7/10

1 point- Rangers @ 10/11

Duffy swill halt the East Fife Express

Dumbarton have a strong squad and the arrival of Jim Duffy can give them a bounce to see off an East Fife side who are looking for an incredible 9th win on the trot. I don’t expect East Fife to keep this going so the 19/10 on offer for Dumbarton is good for me.

For more comfort, Airdrie should be good enough at home against a struggling Stenhousemuir, and Raith are I think great value at 23/20 at Forfar.

That’ll do me for a Tasty Treble, but I like Edinburgh City for a fab four. Unlike East Fife, I think City are the real deal and I don’t think Stirling will enjoy the same effect of their change in manager as Duffy’s Dumbarton

  • One last pick that might be worth a smaller risk is Clyde who might just be good enough to take Peterheid at home at just over 2/1.

2 points – Raith @ 23/20

2 points – Airdrie @ 17/20

2 points – Dumbarton @ 19/10

2 points – Edinburgh City @ 21/20

1 point – Clyde @ 41/20

Oink!

Keep the Raith

Been a fairly slow start to the season and we have some ground to make up. I fancy this weeks picks strongly and want to get these posted early to be sure you don’t miss out! That’s the kind of pig I am.

Kilmarnocks form over past year has been bettered probably only by Celtic and they are a tough proposition for a transitioning St Mirren. Although Saints could get something if they mirror their last two home performances against Celtic and Hibs, Killie are strong favourites and evens is good value.

Morton will turn their draws into wins and give some rough justice to that turncoat McKinnon against a poor Falkirk side. 7/8 is generous – thanks.

Lastly Raith will pump Stranraer at 7/10.

Only difficult decision here is how to spend your winnings – enjoy!

Late addition!!!

Annan away to Rothes, (who?). Don’t like betting on the cup, but at 5/6, they should be significantly stronger. Rothes struggling in a league made up of mainly Shepherds and goats.

3 points – Kilmarnock @ evens

3 points – Morton @ 7/8

3 points – Raith @ 7/10

2 points – Annan @5/6

Pigs against piglets

When it comes to feeding time and you have old boars and piglets jostling for the best seat at the table – I know who my money is on.

No different here. The Challenge Cup has been a happy hunting ground over last couple of years where experience has quashed youth time and again at good value. Unfortunately the party is over somewhat as the market has adjusted itself, and also the field has been leveled a little with the relaxing of some of the rules around over age players.

However Queens Park and Sligo Rovers still need to be taken against the Motherwell and St Mirren U21 weans. With no senior team games on today, the U21 teams should be well up for it, but experience will tell.

Queen of the South make up this weeks Tasty Treble away to East Fife.

Lastly, Dundee Utd are worth a bet and could be added for a 4 fold. Now that Utd have got rid of that clown, Robbie Neilson should do well and the new manager effect can play out against a rudderless Partick Thistle.

*** Late addition bonus ball – Cowdenbeath away to Elgin are worth a small wager @ 21/5

2 points – Queens Park @23/20

2 points – Sligo Rovers @ 1/2

2 points – Queen of the South @ 4/5

2 points – Dundee Utd @ 21/10

1 point – Cowdenbeath @ 21/5

Enjoy!

Livis hoofers to hit the skids

Great start from Livi this season, well done, very refreshing, blah, blah…  but that’s plenty. Someone please put a stop to this, we can do without a team of cluggers supported by a handful of fans and a stray goat being one of our top sides. No doubt they are an effective side, but I’m taking Motherwell  today to start the ball rolling down hill.

Peterhead can beat anyone in Division 2 if they are motivated enough, and playing the closest thing they could ever get to calling a “derby” should ensure no slip ups. 11/20 is good value.

To complete the Tasty Treble… Clyde. I’m wary of Queens Park.. stuffy side, but still being managerless, and the positive vibes around Clyde make this worth it.

Add Rangers to complete a 4 fold tomorrow at home to Hearts.

For some better value singles, or massive 7 fold, add Morton, Dundeee and Partick, all at value prices between 5/2 and 4/1.

In detail, my bacon loving friends:

2 points – Motherwell @11/10

2 points – Peterhead @ 11/20

2 points – Clyde @ 10/11

2 points – Rangers @ 8/11

1 point – Morton @ 4/1

1 point – Dundee @ 3/1

1 point – Partick 13/5
