Lunch time at The Piggery

Pay your Mothers Day lunch tomorrow with a home win at the ground affectionately known to all those outside the East End of Glasgow as “The Piggery”, (* See Note 1 below). Not the top pick of the weekend, think it should be a close call, but Celtic will be determined to overturn the last Old Firm result and they should do so at 17/20.

A lot of interest today in the lower leagues.. Dundee Utd, Dumbarton and Queens PArk make up this weeks Tasty Treble, and the other top pick is Annan away to Elgin for a Fab 4 fold.

Also in the Premiership, there is reasonable value for 3 home wins with Motherwell, Kilmarnock and St Mirren, (though the last choice is a very close call…)

Montrose are a solid bet at evens against Stranraer, and for an outsider, I have a wee feeling for Jim Goodwins Alloa to make a dent on an under pressure Ross County who haven’t really been firing on all cylinders. Alloa really need to win this to ensure their good work this season doesn’t come to nothing, it’s a long shot, but 11/2 is worth it.

Stick the lot on and we can probably buy The Piggery! Oink!

* Note 1: Also known as “The Twilight Zone”, Parkpead and the “Knew Camp”

In summary:

2 points – Dundee Utd @ 4/5
2 points – Dumbarton @ 19/20
2 points – Queens Park @ 5/4
2 points – Annan @ evens
1 point – Celtic @ 17/20
1 point – Montrose @ 11/10
1 point – Kilmarnock @ 7/10
1 point – Motherwell @ 7/5
1 point – Alloa @ 11/2
1 point – St Mirren @ 6/4

City Pickers

Shortened card today with International week, but there are some value picks to be found today in the lower leagues – all evens or above.

All eyes will be on the glamour top of the table clash in the capital city so let’s start here. It’s a tough call Edinburgh City price at over 2/1 at home make them worth a bet. Elsewhere in division 2, Clyde have a tough test against Annan but will have renewed hope since their harsh points deduction and will be highly motivated for victory. Queens park are much improved since the turn of year and can take care of Cowdenbeath.

In Division 1, the bumbling bookies offered Dumbarton at 7/2 but as I write this has already raced in to 5/2. Raith are strong at home, but under pressure and Jim Duffys Dumbarton are the divisions form team.

4 fold and 3 folds, seems a good option here, or just stick with singles, there’s enough value. In summary:

2 points – Clyde @ evens
2 points – Queens Park @ 6/5
1 Point – Dumbarton @ 7/2
1 point – Edinburgh City @ 12/5

A Friday Five

Getting in early this week to avoid disappointment!

5 solid picks this week, starting tonight with an Inverness side who have outplayed their neighbours on almost all meetings this season, and 9/4 at home is good value, though it is coming in.

In League 1 – 3 picks: Ignore are the best side in Division 1 by some distance and due to a couple of recent blips we’re getting them at 4/5 to beat East Fife. Dumbarton are the leagues form team, and it’s no surprise Jim Duffy has them firing again. Stenhousemuir can continue their overdue resurgence and leapfrog Stranraer.

Lastly, we’ll take Clyde to get over their crushing and unjustifiable points deduction to defy the powers that be and get back to winning ways against a dangerous Stirling side.

For more, look at Ayr and Annan at home. Ayr can get back on track against a very unpredictable Queen of the South who are on downward spiral with Gary Naismith under pressure. Annan are good value at 2/1 against Edinburgh City.

** One late addition – Queens Park. Their price has come in but probably still worth it. Given Ayr, Dumbarton, Inverness all postponed, it still leaves us with a nice five fold.

2 points – Inverness @ 9/4 – (Postponed)
2 points – Arbroath @ 4/5
2 points – Dumbarton @ 23/20 – (Postponed)
2 points – Stenhousemuir 6/4
2 points – Clyde @ 8/11

1 point – Annan @ 2/1
1 point – Ayr @ 17/20 – (Postponed)
1 point – Queens Park @ 13/10

Pigs Away!

We’re going for an away day clean sweep in Division 2 today, with all 5 games providing tempting odds for a flutter.. firstly though, the Tasty Treble.

Motherwell are one of the form teams in the SPFL, and barring another freak Van Basten-esque goal from perennial top league nuisances Hamilton, we should see a comfortable win here. Hamilton won here as a high-priced Porkers Pick earlier in the season, but were frankly, spawny as fuck. So expect a reverse.

And onto the hotbed of aways in Division 2. Cowdenbeath and Clyde are similarly priced at around 8/11, both value. Berwick were very lucky to get a point against rock bottom Albion Rovers last week, and will struggle to take anything from Cowdenbeath. Clyde are flying, and will fancy themselves for all 3 points at Elgin.

Go up one league for a Fab Five – Dumbarton are the form team in League 1, though Montrose are strong, and Raith should take care of Airdrie at home. Add Celtic at 2/5 at home to Aberdeen to top up those winnings.

In the Championship, Falkirk were great value earlier in the week at 10/3, so as the form team in the league, (2 defeats in 15, unbeaten this year), it was no surprise they saw off Ayr Utd last night. Elsewhere today, Dundee Utd and Alloa might be worth a risk.

And finishing off is the remaining 3 aways in League 2 – Queens Park, Annan and a small wager on Albion Rovers to come up with shock of the day.

2 points – Cowdenbeath @ 7/10
2 points – Clyde @ 8/11
2 points – Motherwell @ 3/4

1 point – Celtic @ 2/5

1 point – Dundee Utd @ 11/8
0.5 points – Alloa @ 5/1

1 point – Dumbarton @ 6/4
1 point – Raith @ 3/4

1 point – Queens Park @ 5/4
1 point – Annan @ 4/1
0.5 point – Albion Rovers @ 10/1

Poking around the pig shit

Two good value bets in the dregs of Scottish Football today.

Peterhead enjoy their dominance in the only thing the isolated cheuchters can call close to a derby. I strongly fancy them to lord it up against their fellow sheep lovers from about about a hundred miles away in Elgin. Anything better than 1/2 is a steal.
Going deep into the lowest form of professional, (??), football life in Scotland, we have a real battle of dung with Albion Rovers against Berwick. Far and away the two worst teams in Scotland, I actually think Albion Rovers are a bit less shit than Berwick, and 6/4 is good value for money.

No further strong fancies, but a number that are worth backing. Dunfermline just make the pick for the Tasty Treble, though Steven Dobbie always brings a note of caution.

Rangers, Stenhousemuir can make a fab five, and Raith could make a lucrative 6 fold.

For longer odds, look at St Mirren, Dumbarton and Queens Park.

Tasty Treble:

2 points – Peterhead @ 8/15
2 points – Albion Rovers @ 6/4
1 point – Dunfermline @ 19/20

The rest:

1 point – Rangers @ 10/11
1 point – Stenhousemuir @ 6/5
1 point – Raith @ 3/4
1 point – St Mirren @ 21/10
1 point – Dumbarton @ 3/1
1 point – Queens Park @ 3/1
