Pig six

Last picks of the year and we will try to go out with a bang with a buck on each game in the top flight.

Motherwell are my top pick even at 8/15. Brian Rice seems to think his side are unfortunate world beaters

I’m going for Aberdeen at Tynecastle, even without Cosgrove up front. Signs so far from new manager Stendel don’t really bode well from my view. Coming out with stuff along the lines of, “you’re all shite”, and “given time you will come round to my thinking” doesn’t really instill confidence in a squad and I expect the whole club are just waiting for the January window. As ever Naismiths fitness could decide this one, let’s hope he misses out again.

In the Old Firm clash, I fancy Rangers to get something out of this. This is a tight one to call, and a draw is not too unpalatable for either team so for the first time this season I am going to sit on the fence here and go for a draw.

St Mirren are due a win and they can come out on top against Kilmarnock. Team selection is key here but I am going to gamble that Saints don’t need to play an untested 18 year old midfielder again at centre half.

Elsewhere, I’ll take a strong Livingston side at home on their plastic pitch to edge out Hibs who I think have been carrying a little fortune of late. And lastly we’ll go for Ross County for value away to St Johstone – almost 4/1 which is too much.

That’s it for 2019 – wishing all my faithful listeners out there a very happy and prosperous New Year!

2 points – Motherwell @ 8/15

1 point – Rangers @ 11/4
1 point – St Mirren @ 9/5

1 point – Ross County @ 19/5

Hogs head to Boghead

… or The Rock or whatever it’s called. But Boghead gave me a better headline.

Anyway, we go there for the nap of the day. No sure things in football, but Dumbarton are way over priced at 4/5 and strangely haven’t moved in all week. To add to that, there’s now word coming from Stranraer of significant injury worries, so we’ll go in strong here with a 3 point stake.

In the Championship, another odds on favourite that are strongly fancied is Inverness and it would be a big surprise for them not to take all 3 points against Arbroath.

Completing a fairly short-priced Tasty Treble is Edinburgh City. One of the top form sides in the country, they are up against a stuffy Cowdenbeath side but are strongly fancied to break them down in most likely a low scoring affair. 7/10 is just about good enough.

For a 4-fold, add Falkirk. It’s a top of the table clash and they are away against an Airdire side who sit above them at the half way stage. However Airdrie haven’t really convinced anyone yet. Falkirk have just a little bit of momentum with their new manager and if they play to their capacity they really should win here.

5 other higher priced selections complete the line up for more attractive returns:

3 points – Dumbarton @ 4/5
1 point – Inverness @ 4/6
1 point – Edinburgh City @ 7/10
1 point – Falkirk @ 6/5

1 point – Queen of the South @ 13/5
1 point – Clyde @ 5/2
1 point – Forfar @ 21/10
1 point – Queens Park @ 19/10
0.5 points – Alloa @ 7/1

3 Little Pigs ? ? ?

An extra special year end treat for all you Porkers Picks fans out there!

Today is the first in a Trilogy that will hopefully end the year on a high. One game today, followed by a full card of lower league Scottish Football tomorrow, then climaxed by the final Premiership fixtures before the Winter break. How terribly exciting!

Tonight – just one fixture, but there’s value. Derby matches have a habit of going to form as there is less chance of complacency and we will put this theory to the test tonight with a bet on Dundee Utd at 7/10.

Starting slowly.. more to come tomorrow folks!

1 point – Dundee Utd @ 7/10

Faking it in

Sometimes a pigs gotta eat what is put in front of him and today we are going to reluctantly punt on the fake Saints ahead of the real ones. I had this one ear marked for an away win for some time, however the real Saints side is decimated by injuries to their backline, and St Johnstone should be able to take advantage. If more players make it back than expected, this could change the outcome.

There are small margins today, so small stakes but to complete the Tasty Treble we go to the bottom league and take Cowdenbeath who are value at home to a Stenny side who wont make much progress under Davie Irons. We will also take Edinburgh City to win at evens. Although Stirling are an under-rated side, Edinburgh City are formidable right now.

For a 4 fold, I’m keeping some faith in Hearts. It’s a bottom of the table clash, and Hearts have struggled this season but Hamilton really are rank.

For 5, take Falkirk to stop Montrose from leap-frogging them into the play off zone. Montrose are having a great season but if Falkirk raise their game here they should win.

4 higher priced picks follow – in detail:
