Leap Hog

It’s Leap Day and this hog is going to hop straight to it today. No time for hogwash.

Queens Park’s the pick of the day, strongly fancied at home to Annan, so we’ll go in heavy with that one. The rest – smaller stakes, but worth a grunt:

3 points – Queens Park @ 10/11
1 point – Alloa @ 13/5
1 point – St Mirren @ 13/5
1 point – Montrose @ 13/10
1 point – Stirling Albion @ 4/5
0.5 points – Albion Rovers @ 5/2

Partick Bristle at Relegation Hogfight

After their last disappointing loss at Dens Park, Ian McCall conceded it was a relegation dogfight to Partick Thistle. Their recent run of poor form brings value back into their price, after McCall looked like he was getting things back on track. They have a strong squad, and at home they will be desperate to start getting out of this mess against a Dunfermline side that wont bring too much for them to fear. 9/5 is worth taking.

In the Premiership Aberdeen look like they are hitting a bit of form, and assuming they can get over their 120 minute midweek drama against Kilmarnock, they are deservedly strong favourites against Ross County. I’m not usually one for making low return bets but wil make an exception in this case as Ross County are beginning to look like a really poor side. I can’t see Aberdeen not winning this one.

To complete the Tasty Treble, take Elgin City at home against Cowdenbeath. Beath seem to have fell away slightly just as Elgin are building up a head of steam – they beat Cove 3-0 last time out at home and are fancied here at 10/11.

That’s your Tasty Treble folks!!

For a Fab 4 fold, we are going to take a risk on Albion Rovers down at Annan. Big chance this game will be called off, but hopefully conditions wont turn it into a lottery as I think Albion Rovers are the better side here, and on a fairly decent patch of form. Which makes the 2/1 price worth taking.

To make five, I like Arbroath, again at a generous 2/1 to continue their great form at home to Ayr. It could be treacherous conditions up there, but this could work in Arbroaths favour who are most than used to getting blown about and soaked.

Lastly – Hibs are just about worth it at 13/10 at home to Livingston, and Queens Park are worth a small wager as outsiders to Cove Rangers.

Stirling, and maybe Dumbarton, would likely have made the cut, but these games are sure to be cancelled.

Good luck all!

2 points – Aberdeen @ 8/15
2 points – Partick Thistle @ 9/5
2 points – Elgin @ 10/11

2 points – Albion Rovers @ 2/1
2 points – Arbroath @ 2/1
1 point – Hibernian @ 13/10

0.5 points – Queens Park @ 5/1

Picking up a storm

Four picks today, and cautious that might be too much. Not much jumping out here, a lot if tight games, and Storm Dennis just makes it even more unpredictable.

We’ll take a slight bias towards Teuchter and higher priced teams as a result.

No Tasty Treble. 4 punts. Good luck. ?

1 point – Stirling @ 15/8
1 point – Arbroath @ 6/4
1 point – Queens Park @ evens
1 point – Ross County @ 5/2

Midweek value

St Mirren have drifted into value with just over 4/1 being too much to ignore.

No doubting that Livi have built a solid side particularly at home, and Saints have injury woes. However Saints haven’t lost in last 8 excluding Old Firm and have deserved more throughout, so at this price they are worth a punt.

1 point – St Mirren @ 21/5

Happy as a pig in shit

No happier hunting ground for a pig than the lower dregs of Division 2. And it doesn’t come much dirtier than Scotlands match of the day between Albion Rovers and Brechin – the 41st and 42nd best teams in the country right now.

Fair play to the fans who endure this contest – but don’t expect the importance of the occasion to bring out an entertaining match. There will be a lot of pressure on both sets of players here, and coupled with expected torrid weather conditions a draw may be settled upon. At 18/5 it is generously priced and worth a shot.

Elsewhere in Division 2, we’ll take Edinburgh City to get back to winning ways against a poor Annan side, (baffling 6-1 victory over Cove Rangers aside). A Morton side who are slowly gathering respect complete the Tasty Treble at home to Queen of the South.

For a Fab 4 – I think it is highly likely that Premiership Hibs will give BSC Glasgow from whichever division they play in a right pumping and I think they are a bit too well priced. Hibs to win by 3 or more is the pick at evens.

4 more higher value singles make up todays selections, although the anticipated leveler that is Storm Ciara seems to be late in arriving.

The Tasty:

1 point – Morton @ 6/4
1 point – Edinburgh City @ 4/6
1 point – Albion Rovers vs Brechin Draw @ 18/5

The Rest:

1 point – Hibernian – 2 @ evens
1 point – Partick Thistle @ 11/5
1 point – Dumbarton @ 13/5
1 point – Forfar @ 4/1
1 point – St Mirren @ 11/5

JR Doing

Time for Jim Goodwin to get one over on his old gaffer. Hibs have been carrying a fair bit of luck recently whilst St Mirren have been the opposite. New signings for both sides add random to the occasion but key will be how Saints two young centre halves cope with Hibs strikeforce. If Saints get the rub of the green then 7/2 can be an attractive single.

For our Tasty Treble however, we need to go down the leagues. Montrose are the pick of the day at home to Peterhead. As one of the Divisions best sides, evens is good odds.

We’ll add Motherwell away to Livingston. Tough match but Motherwell are a strong side and 5/2 is generous. Livingston won’t exactly be bouyed by their deadline busting signing – bringing Dolly Menga back from his loan.

Dundee Utd at home to Arbroath tops it up to a Tasty Treble!

Add Morton to maintain their form with a home win against Dundee for a Fab 4 Fold.

A few more longer priced picks follow.

2 points – Montrose @ evens
1 point – Motherwell @ 5/2
1 point – Dundee Utd @ 1/2

1 point – St Mirren @ 7/2
1 point – Morton @ 11/5
1 point – Ross County @ 15/4
1 point – Forfar @ 11/4
1 point – Stenhousemuir @ 19/10
0.5 points – Dumbarton @ 4/1
0.5 points – Alloa @ 8/1
